• Debian x86_64 + Nginx + PHP5-FPM optimization

  I used to have a VPS (512MB) from Linode and I was running nginx + php5-fpm (which comes with php5.3.3) on Debian Lenny (i686). The total memory usage was about 90-100MB. Now I have another VPS (different hosting company) and I also run nginx + php5-fpm on Debian Lenny (x86_64). The system is 64-bit, so the memory usage is higher now, about 210-230MB, which I think is too much. • Adjust output Brightness/Gamma/Colors in Gnome

  We have a desktop system running Ubuntu 8.04.4, and it is connected to a standard desktop LCD monitor. Unfortunately, in 8.04.4, the brightness of the image is cranked way up. It appears to be a graphics driver issue. Unfortunately, installing a newer GPU driver for this Intel GPU is very difficult to do. So, I am looking for a software (or config file?) solution to achieve this. Note: Ubuntu 9.10 and higher do not exhibit this issue, so this is not a hardware problem. Note: VNC-ing to this machine from another does not exhibit this issue either. Also, I installed "DisplayCalibrator.app", and it does not work very well (the app comes up, but the contents of the window are blank). Is there anything that I can add to the xorg.conf file to correct this issue? Also, this solution: http://superuser.com/questions/96539/adjust-contrast-and-brightness-in-ubuntu did not resove my issue. Thank you all for the help!

  What am I getting wrong? A while back I locked down my web hosting service while hardening it or at least trying to. How exactly are these 3 examples slipping through?

• Unable to install .NET Framework 3.5 to my XP machine

  I have an application that requires .NET 3.5, but I can't install it. The installer quits saying "it has encoutered a problem during setup. If I look at some of the error logs in the tmp directory I see. Error occurred while initializing fusion. It seems that I have 2.0 SP1 installed. Any ideas how I can get it to work? I went through the temp directory and found these references to the error. Any ideas? • PCI configuration method error (Linux Kernel)

  (I'm not sure if here is the best place for that question, so I will be pleased if anyone suggests me a more proper forum for that.) I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.4 in a netbook (from an usb), but the kernel stops very early in initialization process. After two days of research, I've found that it boots with the parameter pci=conf2 but not with the default conf1 method. Nevertheless, after kernel boot, it seems that Ubuntu can't find usb devices and I'm not be able to install it. Trying with Debian, its a graphic installer and I found that the mouse isn't working neither.I think pci devices are not working. I tried about 50% of kernel pci boot options in the kernel-parameters file (in conjunction with the implicit default conf1) without luck. Any suggestions? PS: The problem is the same with kernel 2.6 or 3. (In Spanish) No estoy seguro si éste es el mejor lugar para esta pregunta, por lo cual estaré encantado si alguno me sugiere un mejor lugar para ella. Estoy intentando instalar Ubuntu 12.04.4 en una netbook (desde un usb), pero el kernel se detiene muy temprano en la inicialización. • java memory allocation under linux

  I'm running 4 java processes with the following command: java -Xmx256m -jar ... and the system has 8Gb memory under fedora 12. however it is apparently going into swap. how can that be if 4 x 256m = 1Gb ? EDIT: also, how can all 8Gb of memory be used with so little memory allocated to basically the only thing running? is it java not garbage collecting because the OS tells it it doesn't need to or what? I'm using the Snow Leopard built-in apache and Passenger 2.2.11. I'm using the rails template from the mongo-site which seems to work okay overall. My scenario is ok if got a record in EDW as below Key1 Key2 Code Value EffectiveDate EndDate CurrentFlag 100 555 01 AAA 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y 100 555 02 BBB 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y This need to be loaded into DM by pivoting it as key1 and key2 combinations makes Natural key for DM SK NK 01 02 EffectiveDate EndDate CurrentFlag 1 100-555 AAA BBB 2010-01-01 11.00.00 9999-12-31 Y My ssis package does this all good pivoting... looking up the incoming NK in DIM.. if new will insert .. else with further lookup with effective date and determine if the incoming for same natural key got any new (change) in attribute.. if so updates the current record byy setting its end date and insert the new one with new attribute value and pulling the recent records values for other attributes. My problem is if the same natural key comes twice with same attribute in single extract my first lookup which on natural key .. will let both records pass and try to insert.. where its fails. If i get distinct records on NK the second is not picked and need to run package again. So my question how can i configure lookup or alernative way to handle this scenario when same NK comes twice in single extract, would be able to insert first record if not exists in Dim table and for second one should be able to updated with the changes with reference to one inserted above. • Change NSTimer interval for repeating timer.

  Hi, I am running a mainLoop in Cocoa using an NSTimer set up like this: mainLoopTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0/fps target:self selector:@selector(mainloop) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; [[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] addTimer:mainLoopTimer forMode:NSEventTrackingRunLoopMode]; At Program startup I set the timeInterval to 0.0 so that the mainloop runs as fast as possible. Anyways, I would like to provide a function to set the framerate(and thus the time interval of the timer) to a specific value at runtime. • Locating memory leak in Apache httpd process, PHP/Doctrine-based application

  I have a PHP application using these components: Apache 2.2.3-31 on Centos 5.4 PHP 5.2.10 Xdebug 2.0.5 with Remote Debugging enabled APC 3.0.19 Doctrine ORM for PHP 1.2.1 using Query Caching and Results Caching via APC MySQL 5.0.77 using Query Caching I've noticed that when I start up Apache, I eventually end up 10 child processes. As time goes on, each process will grow in memory until each one approaches 10% of available memory, which begins to slow the server to a crawl since together they grow to take up 100% of memory. (Maybe someone can correct me on that). My hunch is that it could be APC, since it stores data between requests, but at the same time, it seems weird that it would store data inside the httpd process. How can I track down which part of my app is causing the memory leak? What tools can I use to see how the memory usage is growing inside the httpd process and what is contributing to it?
